What you’ll be doing...
Verizon is in the process of modernising our core networks to enable new, ground-breaking products and technologies. As a Graduate Center Engineer, you will join our Ultra Long Haul team to help drive various network build initiatives. This is a fantastic opportunity to launch your career, where you will be supported in learning the lifecycle of network engineering. You will work alongside experienced professionals to help manage projects, coordinate with vendors, and resolve technical challenges as they arise.
Engineering details will include but not be limited to project-specific installation instructions, engineering database (ICON, CCP) updates, equipment configurations, card/port assignments/requirements, power mapping, cable running lists, floor space and rack placement, and a detailed Bill of Materials (BOM).
Creating required Shopping Carts or Telephone Equipment Orders (TEOs) to drive the purchase of required equipment and services.
Creating Project Supplements as required for appropriate financial budget management of build initiatives.
Coordinating and driving engineering issues to resolution.
Managing multiple Capacity Creation Requests for new hardware deployments, reconfigurations, decommissions, and First Office Application (FOA) projects.
Negotiating and coordinating overall project schedules for engineering activities, construction start and completion dates.
Identifying, monitoring, reporting, escalating, and resolving technical issues encountered throughout the build process.
Maintaining excellent communication with the Project Manager, Functional Team Members, and Direct Management to ensure early identification of issues and timely reporting of status.
Interfacing with Operations and other Implementation organisations in performing site surveys to obtain critical site-specific pre-engineering data prior to the build, as well as post-installation redlines and end-of-job audits.
Negotiating, coordinating, and driving/tracking completion of project milestones with all appropriate stakeholders, to include third-party turf vendors.
Facilitating and maintaining relationships with multiple service vendors, including pricing compliance, standards creation and compliance, and conducting quality reviews – to include follow-up remediation as appropriate and periodic performance reviews.
What we’re looking for...You are self-driven with experience in the design and implementation of complex and distributed systems. You have a passion for seeking engineering excellence and adopting new technologies. You are not afraid to drive for success by working with multi-functional teams.
You’ll need to have:
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or equivalent).
The ability to work well with others (as a team) and individually (on your own projects) with a positive attitude.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrable excellent problem-solving skills.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Knowledge of technical domains such as: SONET, DWDM, Long Haul Transport Systems, Backbone Routing/Switching, Physical Server Deployments, or Voice Switching platforms.
Familiarity with telecommunications equipment or network installations.
Proficiency in utilising AI tools to streamline technical research, documentation, and problem-solving.
