Junior Business Analyst, 12 month fixed term contract
Re-turn is delivering a national digital platform to support the Deposit Return Scheme and enable Ireland to meet its EU recycling and sustainability targets. As part of this effort, we are building a cloud-native, scalable data platform to manage, transform, and analyse the high volumes of data driving our operational and financial processes.
We are looking for a Junior Business Analyst to join our growing product team. Working closely with the Business Analyst, Product Owner, and development teams, you will support the capture and documentation of business requirements, contribute to Agile delivery processes, and help ensure solutions are clearly understood by all stakeholders.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their BA career who is eager to learn, enjoys working across business and technical teams, and wants to contribute to a product that is critical to Ireland’s sustainability goals.
Your Team:
As the Junior Business Analyst, you will report to the Business Analyst and work within a growing product and technology function under the broader direction of the Head of Application Development and Data.
You’ll collaborate with developers, QA, architects, data engineers, and external vendors supported by the Business Analyst to help deliver solutions that meet both business and regulatory requirements. You’ll be embedded in an Agile product team, participating in backlog refinement, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
This is a role where curiosity, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn are key. You’ll develop your skills across the full requirements lifecycle, supported by experienced colleagues.
Your Responsibilities:
Requirements Gathering & Analysis
- Support stakeholder engagement across operations, finance, compliance, and technology to help capture business needs.
- Assist in facilitating workshops, interviews, and process mapping sessions to elicit and document requirements.
- Help analyse current processes, systems, and data flows to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
Agile Documentation & Backlog Management
- Assist in translating requirements into user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria for Agile delivery.
- Support the creation and maintenance of UML diagrams (use case, activity, process flows) and data models.
- Participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, and prioritisation activities alongside the Product Owner and BA.
Testing & Change Management
- Support UAT planning and execution, helping to ensure business sign-off on delivered features.
- Participate in defect triage and help maintain traceability between requirements and test cases.
- Assist in creating training materials and supporting documentation for end users.
Stakeholder Communication & Alignment
- Support communication between business stakeholders, product management, and technical teams.
- Help document and track requirement status, risks, and dependencies.
- Ensure solutions remain aligned with regulatory obligations and Re-turn’s mission.
Team Culture
- Contribute to a culture of openness, learning, and accountability within the team.
- Actively participate in team ceremonies and contribute to a positive and inclusive team environment.
- Take ownership of your development by seeking feedback and learning from more senior colleagues.
Requirements:
- 1–2 years’ experience in a Business Analyst, systems analyst, or equivalent role
- Exposure to Agile environments and familiarity with Agile concepts (Scrum, Kanban, user stories, acceptance criteria).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document requirements.
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively across business and technical teams.
- Organised and able to manage multiple tasks with guidance.
- Some exposure to UML or process modelling tools (e.g., Lucidchart, Visio, draw.io).
- Basic familiarity with data concepts such as data flows, relational data, or SQL is a plus.
- Experience with tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Awareness of data privacy regulations (GDPR).
- Interest in sustainability, digital services, or regulatory platforms.
Desired Skills
- Exposure to SaaS or cloud-native environments.
- Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics) is an advantage.
