The Role

We are seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our Digital Products team.

This role is ideal for a highly capable engineer who combines strong frontend expertise with solid backend development experience and a passion for building high-quality software. While the role is primarily focused on developing and enhancing our web platforms using React and TypeScript, you will also contribute to backend services, APIs, integrations and platform capabilities that power our digital products.

Working closely with Product, Editorial, Commercial and Engineering teams, you will take ownership of features from concept through to production, helping to deliver exceptional digital experiences to hundreds of thousands of readers every day.

You will play a key role in promoting engineering excellence across the team through mentoring, code reviews, technical leadership and the adoption of best practices. Experience working within digital publishing, content management systems and high-traffic consumer-facing websites is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop and maintain modern web applications using React, TypeScript and JavaScript
Own features throughout their lifecycle, from technical design and implementation to deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement
Build scalable, maintainable and reusable frontend architectures and components
Develop and integrate backend services, APIs and platform capabilities using TypeScript and JavaScript technologies
Collaborate with Product, Editorial, Commercial and Design teams to deliver high-quality customer experiences
Integrate frontend applications with CMS platforms, content APIs and other business-critical systems
Champion engineering excellence through clean code, testing, code reviews and continuous improvement practices
Drive improvements in application performance, accessibility, reliability and security
Ensure security best practices are embedded throughout the software development lifecycle
Contribute to integration architecture and the successful delivery of platform and third-party integrations
Mentor and support less experienced engineers through coaching, pairing and constructive feedback
Contribute to architectural discussions and technical decision-making
Troubleshoot production issues and participate in operational support when required
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, development tooling and engineering best practices

Requirements & Experience for the role

Essential

8+ years of professional software engineering experience
Strong commercial experience developing web applications using React
Expert knowledge of TypeScript and modern JavaScript
Experience building and maintaining scalable, customer-facing web applications
Experience designing, consuming and integrating RESTful APIs and backend services
Strong understanding of software design principles, application architecture and modern development practices
Demonstrated commitment to code quality, testing and maintainability
Experience managing application and integration security considerations, including secure development practices and vulnerability management
Experience delivering and supporting complex system integrations
Experience with automated testing frameworks and test-driven development practices
Experience working with Git, CI/CD pipelines and Agile delivery methodologies
Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills
Proven ability to independently own and deliver complex features and initiatives
Experience mentoring, coaching or supporting less experienced engineers

Highly Desirable

Experience working within digital media, publishing or subscription-based businesses
Experience working with enterprise CMS platforms or headless CMS solutions
Experience developing backend services using Node.js and TypeScript
Experience building high-traffic, content-rich consumer websites
Experience contributing to technical strategy and architectural decision-making
Experience with cloud-native applications and services
Experience with AWS services and cloud infrastructure
Familiarity with analytics, personalisation, audience engagement or subscription platforms
Tech Stack

Content & Publishing: CMS Platforms, Headless CMS Architectures, Content APIs, Publishing Workflows

Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB or similar
Cloud: AWS (preferred), Azure or GCP
Testing: Jest, React Testing Library, Detox or similar frameworks
