Job Title Principal Solutions Architect
Function/Dept Engineering
Location Dundalk HQ or Remote Ireland (With occasional trip to HQ as required)
Reporting To Chief Product & Technology Officer
Why This Role
We are in the middle of a once-in-a-platform transformation: migrating to AWS, re-architecting the sportsbook front end, and surgically breaking down our Oracle monolith into event-driven microservices – all while running a high-volume, always-on sportsbook. This is high-stakes, complex work, and the business needs a senior architect who has genuinely done it before to plan and execute it.
This is a senior role for an established architect, not a step-up or development position. We are looking for someone who is already a practising architect at a recognised sportsbook (casino experience also valued) and who understands, first-hand, the logic and scale that sit behind a betting platform. You will own the end-to-end architecture of our most critical initiatives and be hands-on in making them real.
As Principal Solution Architect you will provide senior architectural leadership across the BOYLE Sports platform, with sportsbook as your core specialism. You will translate our platform strategy into concrete, executable designs, set the technical direction for the transformation programmes, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with engineering squads to deliver them – not just on paper, but in production.
You will partner closely with the Head of Engineering Delivery (who owns delivery coordination), the Director of Product (roadmap) and the CPTO (strategy), acting as the senior technical authority who de-risks the hardest problems and keeps our architecture coherent as it evolves.
Own and execute the transformation architecture
AWS migration (application architecture). Own the application and workload architecture for our move to AWS – how latency-sensitive, high-availability sportsbook services are designed, decomposed and migrated – working in close partnership with our dedicated Cloud & Digital Infrastructure team, who lead on the underlying cloud platform (landing zones, networking, security and cost). This role complements that team rather than replacing it.
Sportsbook front-end re-architecture. Own the target architecture for the new sportsbook front end (app-shell and micro-frontend model, SPA/PWA, React), ensuring performance, SEO and a first-class mobile experience under peak load.
Breaking down the monolith. Plan and drive the surgical decomposition of the Oracle monolith into event-driven microservices – identifying seams, defining domain and service boundaries, sequencing strangler-pattern extractions, and managing data migration without disrupting live trading.
Plan and execute. Take initiatives from strategy through solution design to delivery: produce the designs, prove them with prototypes and PoCs, embed with squads, and remain accountable for the outcome in production.
Sportsbook domain leadership
Core betting logic. Bring deep, hands-on understanding of the sportsbook engine: odds and price ingestion, market and event modelling, bet placement and validation, liability and risk/trading management, cash-out, and the settlement pipeline.
Scale and latency. Architect for the throughput, low latency and resilience demanded by live/in-play betting and major sporting and racing events, including idempotency, event-driven flows and graceful degradation.
Related sub-applications. Understand how the sportsbook connects to its surrounding sub-systems – player account management (PAM) and wallet, bonuses & promotions, payments, and responsible-gambling and compliance controls.
Vendor ecosystem. Bring practical experience integrating the key vendors in our space – for example Sportradar (data, pricing and integrity feeds), Optimove (CRM and retention) and Seon (fraud, KYC/AML) – and the judgement to know when to buy versus build.
Architecture leadership and governance
Principles and standards. Uphold and evolve our architecture principles – high cohesion and low coupling, clear domain boundaries, API-first and API-based integration, stateless and containerised services – and set reference patterns and standards teams can reuse.
Technical authority. Act as the senior escalation point for complex technical decisions, architecture reviews and trade-offs, balancing tactical change against long-term goals to minimise technical debt.
Pragmatic technology choices. Apply our open-source, open-standards, vendor-neutral and buy-over-build philosophy, and our infrastructure direction (hub-and-spoke, IaC with Terraform/Ansible, containerisation with Docker/Kubernetes/ECS, blue-green deployment).
Deep knowledge of core sportsbook logic – odds/price ingestion, bet placement, liability and risk/trading, cash-out and settlement – and the scalability, latency and resilience challenges of live betting.
Proven track record architecting and delivering (not just designing) large-scale change: cloud migration to AWS, monolith-to-microservices decomposition, event-driven architectures and front-end re-architecture.
Strong command of modern stacks and practices relevant to us – .NET, React/micro-frontends, Oracle and other data stores, Kafka/event streaming, CI/CD, containerisation and IaC.
Experience in regulated, high-availability environments and familiarity with PCI, KYC/AML, GDPR and responsible-gambling controls.
Experience with additional betting/iGaming platforms, trading systems or data providers, and with payments, CRM or fraud/identity vendors.
