Job Description

The role of the Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Maintenance Engineer will encompass both the electrical and instrumentation planned and unplanned maintenance events on HVAC, BOP, BMS systems, low and high voltage systems.

This is a hands-on role supporting the operational team, ensuring equipment runs safely, efficiently and in line with regulations, wich includes following maintenance (O&M) manuals, standard operating procedures (SOP) and safety rules (Permit to Work, LOTO, HV Switching Log).

The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for all maintenance/troubleshooting, spare parts, documentation, and records related to the facility's control and instrumentation equipment.

In partnership with the Control Engineer and/or Senior Authorized Person (SAP), will perform maintenance/troubleshooting, switching operations on the low voltage (LV) and high voltage (HV) up to 110 kV.

This role is based on site hours of 08:00 to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, however due to the nature of the role, there may be occasions when there is a request to work outside these hours. Standard working hours are 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

Perform daily inspections of electrical and instrumentation equipment, including startup, monitoring, shutdown, and adjustments as needed as per O&M manuals.
Execute low and high voltage switching operations in accordance with standard operating procedures and switching plan.
Conduct routine inspections, thermographic analysis, and condition monitoring of MV/HV switchgear, circuit breakers (AIS/GIS), transformers, MCCs, VSDs, and motors.
Diagnose electrical and instrumentation faults using schematics, diagrams, and testing equipment (e.g., multimeter, insulation tester, micro-ohmmeter).
Interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts to plan and perform maintenance tasks.
Install and calibrate field instrumentation including transmitters, analyzers, sensors, and control valves.
Carrying out bench test calibrations, loop checking, testing instrument and verifying cabling.
Maintain accurate calibration records, test reports, and instrument history files.
Troubleshoot and resolve faults in control systems and instrumentation using P&IDs, loop diagrams, and process flow diagrams.
Respond to alarms and assist in restoration of systems to full operational status.
Install and calibrate field instrumentation including transmitters, analyzers, sensors, and control valves.
Ensure strict adherence to Permit to Work systems, including LOTO procedures, and maintain accurate work documentation.
Log all maintenance activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) in accordance with O&M requirements.
Support the safe isolation and de-energization of equipment prior to maintenance activities.
Prepare and review Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS) for maintenance and intervention tasks.
Report system anomalies and actively suggest opportunities for process and reliability improvements.

Role Requirements

Formal engineering qualification (Diploma or equivalent) with 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role and/or qualified to National Craft Standard.
Solid knowledge of instrumentation engineering design, such as Instrument Index, I/O Lists/ Allocation, Instrument Specs/ Data Sheets, Layouts, Cable Containment, Block Diagrams, System Architecture, Atex/ Hazardous Areas.
Able to interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts to plan and perform maintenance tasks.
Knowledge of SCADA, HMI, PLC Control Philosophies, PLC's and Marshalling PLC's concepts.
Experience with MCCs (Motor Control Centres), VSDs and Instrumentation equipment (level, pressure, flow, analytical etc).
Troubleshoot issues, providing engineering expertise to find solutions promptly.
Knowledge of and commitment to safe work practices, including Permit to Work systems, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), proper PPE usage, and emergency protocols.
Proficiency in use of common and special maintenance tools (e.g. voltmeters, ammeters, insulation resistance testers, vibration meters, thermal imaging cameras, Loop testers, etc).
Comfortable using IT systems and CMMS software for managing work orders, logging maintenance activities, and maintaining technical records.
Flexible to support operations outside of core hours when required.
Fluency in English.
Understanding of Portuguese is advantageous but not required.
For non-Irish residents, availability to work abroad is mandatory.
Completion of Authorized Person (AP) training for high voltage switching operation is desirable, not mandatory.
