Position Summary:
Act as a Full Stack Engineer responsible for enhancing and maintaining Alpha/Charles River Development modules as part of a agile scrum team. The role primarily requires strong Java, React, and relational database skills. Provide engineering and troubleshooting support to customer support and development teams across Charles River.
Responsibilities:
- Analyse, design, develop, test, and support software enhancements across Alpha/Charles River Development modules and shared frameworks.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, Product Managers, and engineering colleagues to deliver simple, sustainable solutions to business and technical problems.
- Lead the investigation and resolution of complex technical issues within assigned areas, including mission-critical client implementations.
- Develop applications and services using Java, Spring Boot, React, TypeScript/JavaScript, SQL, and related technologies. C# and .NET experience is advantageous but not required; the role may include some exposure to these technologies.
- Design and maintain relational database schemas, SQL queries, stored procedures, and data transformations, with a focus on performance, integrity, and scalability.
- Build quality into delivery through code reviews, unit testing, automated testing, and appropriate manual validation.
- Follow enterprise development standards and contribute to improvements in engineering practices and the software development lifecycle.
- Participate actively in Agile delivery practices, including planning, refinement, reviews, daily coordination, and retrospectives.
Qualifications:
Recommended Education:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience required.
Recommended Experience:
- 4+ years of professional Java development experience, ideally including Spring Boot or a comparable modern framework.
- 2–4 years of experience developing modern web applications with React and TypeScript/JavaScript.
- Strong relational database experience, including data modelling, SQL, query optimisation, indexing, transactions, and performance troubleshooting; Microsoft SQL Server is preferred.
- Experience designing and maintaining SQL queries, stored procedures, and data transformations.
- Experience working with object-oriented design, RESTful APIs, automated testing, and collaborative code-review practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative Agile team.
Desirable Experience:
- C# and .NET/.NET Core; familiarity with WinForms or other desktop UI technologies is also beneficial.
- Building or contributing to CI/CD pipelines
- Financial services knowledge
- Working with event-driven architectures, observability tools such as Dynatrace, data migration, or Azure cloud technologies.
Employees are expected to work from the office 4 days a week.
