About CK Geo
CK Geo is a specialist geotechnical engineering consultancy providing practical, technically robust solutions to clients across the residential, commercial, infrastructure, industrial, rail and marine sectors.
Our work covers the full lifecycle of a project, from planning and managing ground investigations through to geotechnical design, construction support and on-site verification. We work closely with developers, civil and structural engineers, architects, contractors and specialist ground engineering/foundation companies to develop safe, economical and buildable solutions.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking a motivated Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to join our team.
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate engineer or engineering geologist who wants to develop practical experience across a broad range of geotechnical projects.
The successful candidate will be involved in both office-based engineering and site work. You will work directly with CKGeo’s founding Directors and will be given increasing responsibility as your technical knowledge and experience develop. This is a great opportunity for a young engineer to gain vast experience by working very closely with highly experienced engineers.
Typical projects include residential and commercial developments, industrial buildings, infrastructure schemes, earthworks, retaining structures, temporary works, slope stabilisation and developments on soft or variable ground.
Key Responsibilities
Under the mentorship and guidance of experienced Directors, responsibilities will include:
- Preparing factual and interpretative ground investigation reports.
- Assessing foundation conditions and providing recommendations for shallow and piled foundations.
- Undertaking bearing capacity, settlement and earthworks assessments.
- Assisting with the assessment of soft ground, made ground, glacial deposits and variable founding conditions.
- Supporting the design of retaining walls, reinforced soil structures, slopes and temporary works.
- Assisting with slope stability analyses and the design of stabilisation measures.
- Evaluating ground improvement options such as soil stabilisation, rigid inclusions, stone columns, deep soil mixing, surcharge and prefabricated vertical drains.
- Reviewing earthworks specifications, material acceptability and compaction requirements
- Planning and supervising ground investigations.
- Supervising boreholes, trial pits, window sampling, dynamic probing, plate load testing and other field investigations.
- Logging soils and rocks in accordance with relevant standards.
- Scheduling and reviewing geotechnical laboratory testing.
- Inspecting foundation excavations, earthworks platforms and ground improvement works.
- Interpreting site investigation information and developing geotechnical ground models.
- Preparing engineering calculations, drawings, technical notes and design reports.
- Liaising with clients, contractors, laboratories and other members of the project design team.
- Attending site meetings and providing practical geotechnical advice during construction.
Candidate Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geology or related discipline.
- Strong interest in geotechnical engineering and ground-related construction.
- Basic understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering and site investigation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prepare clear and well-structured technical reports.
- Practical approach to engineering problems.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small technical team.
- Willingness to undertake site work throughout Ireland.
- Full driving licence, or a commitment to obtain one within an agreed period.
- Base within Dublin or surrounding counties (applicants based outside of Ireland will not be considered).
Experience with AutoCAD, Excel, GIS, geotechnical software, settlement analysis software and access to your own vehicle is beneficial but is not essential.

The successful candidate will receive:
- Friendly, flexible working environment.
- Direct mentoring from experienced geotechnical engineers.
- Exposure to projects from initial site investigation through design and construction.
- Practical experience of site investigation, ground engineering design and construction monitoring.
- Structured support toward professional membership and chartership.
