Position Title: Catering Assistant/General Operative

The Employer:

Crosscare is the social care agency of the Dublin Diocese and is a registered charity.

Crosscare delivers services with a servant leadership ethos. Crosscare’s Homeless, Youth, Information and Advocacy Teams support those most in need with Love, Respect and Excellence.

Crosscare exists to support people and families when they face difficult challenges in life and when they find it hard to get the help they need. Crosscare focuses on helping people when they need it most or when they can’t find support anywhere else.

Location: Crosscare’s Portland Café, 35 Dunne St, Portland Row. Dublin 1

Work Schedule: 30 hours per week Monday – Friday 07.30- 2.30

Contract: 6 Months

Salary:€ 26,619 – €30,480 Depending on Experience

Reporting to: Manager

The Role:Crosscare Food Services: The Portland Café

The Portland café is a Crosscare community café which provides a welcoming, friendly environment where people from the community can access an affordable home-cooked meal. The café encourages a sense of community spirit through eating together and social gatherings and also aims to improve awareness on healthier lifestyles and diet.

General Responsibilities:

Provide catering support in the preparation and serving of food and beverages and other catering duties.
To ensure the manager/cook is kept up to date on stock levels so as to avoid any stock running low.
Sweeping/hoovering/mopping the floor to ensure area is kept free of debris and spills in kitchen and corridors.
Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in the kitchen/cafe adhering to the cleaning schedule daily including kitchen equipment, fridges, surfaces, storage areas, shelving etc.
Operate till and handling cash in line with Café procedures.
Refuse management.
Supporting the work of the Crosscare Food Poverty Case Work service based in the Portland Café incl. handing out food support parcels as needed.
Adhering to all HACCP guidelines ensuring a clean working environment & maintain good personal hygiene/clean uniform and appearance.
To carry out tasks as deemed appropriate by the manager in relation to the role.

Expectations:

To inform manager of any issues that may arise.
To maintain good Health and Safety standards and hygiene practice when handling food /using equipment and promote same to guests.
To maintain open communication with staff and manager incl. cancellation of shifts and handovers
To observe Crosscare Health & Safety Procedures.
To observe clear professional boundaries in relations with customers.
To respond to difficult situations appropriately as guided by the staff team/manager.
To respect guests right to confidentiality in our relationship with them as per the Crosscare Confidentiality and Code of Conduct policies.
To promote respect, diversity and equal opportunity.
To be able to work as part of a team as well as use own initiative.

Personal Skills/Attributes:

We are looking for someone who is interested in a practical role in a team environment.
English level: Basic

Qualification Required & Experience Required

Experience working/ volunteering in catering
HACCP training/experience would be advantageous

Reference provided after 6 months.
