We are currently recruiting for a full time Portfolio Manager. This role will report directly to the Head of Project Delivery and will be responsible for project governance, assurance, and delivery support to the Project Delivery team.
Role Purpose
The Portfolio Manager holds ultimate accountability for the successful delivery of programmes and portfolios. They are responsible for ensuring customer outcomes, business benefits, contractual commitments and commercial objectives are achieved through effective leadership of delivery teams, Senior Project Managers and Project Managers.
While delivery activities may be delegated, accountability for programme and portfolio outcomes remains with the Portfolio Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery Accountability
- Hold ultimate accountability for successful delivery of assigned programmes and portfolios.
- Own programme and portfolio performance across delivery, commercial, contractual and customer dimensions.
- Ensure delivery commitments, customer outcomes and business benefits are achieved.
- Lead decisive intervention and recovery activities where delivery is at risk.
- Maintain visibility and control of programme and portfolio health at all times.
Programme and Portfolio Leadership
- Serve as the executive delivery leader and figurehead for assigned programmes.
- Lead delivery across multiple teams, projects, suppliers and workstreams.
- Establish clear priorities and maintain focus on critical delivery objectives.
- Direct and support Senior Project Managers and Project Managers to achieve programme outcomes.
- Create an environment where delivery teams are positioned for success.
Customer and Executive Stakeholder Leadership
- Build and maintain strong executive-level customer relationships.
- Establish trusted relationships with key customer, supplier and partner stakeholders.
- Influence strategic decisions that impact programme outcomes.
- Understand customer culture, business priorities and success measures.
- Act as the primary escalation point for major programme issues.
Commercial and Contractual Accountability
- Own programme and portfolio financial performance.
- Maintain oversight of budgets, forecasting, profitability and commercial risk.
- Ensure contractual compliance by both Codec and the customer.
- Support commercial negotiations, programme changes and contractual discussions where required.
Benefits Realisation and Business Outcomes
- Maintain focus on benefits tracking and realisation throughout programme delivery.
- Ensure programme activities remain aligned to agreed business cases and strategic objectives.
- Drive outcome-based delivery rather than activity-based delivery.
- Ensure promised customer and organisational value is achieved.
Governance and Performance Management
- Establish effective governance and control frameworks appropriate to programme complexity.
- Ensure accurate reporting of programme health, financial performance, resource utilisation and delivery risks.
- Lead portfolio-level risk, dependency and issue management.
- Drive objective assessment of programme performance and corrective action where required.
Resource and Delivery Capacity Management
- Maintain oversight of resource allocation and utilisation across programmes and portfolios.
- Work closely with leadership, PMO and resource management functions to ensure appropriate capability is available.
- Balance delivery demand with organisational capacity.
Delivery Excellence and Leadership
- Coach and develop Senior Project Managers and Project Managers.
- Drive consistency in delivery standards and practices.
- Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, transparency and continuous improvement.
- Act as a role model for leadership, customer focus and delivery excellence.

At least 5 years' recent experience of successfully delivering complex programmes; and evidence of successful delivery of programmes utilising waterfall, agile and hybrid method
- Demonstrate a depth and breadth of commercial, financial, and risk management experience and to display acumen in each of these areas
- Have a direct influence on the profitability of the program
- Introduce innovation and efficiency in the delivery of programmes; pro-actively identify and mitigate avoidable cost
