Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit a structural design engineer with two to five years' relevant experience for a permanent position within our expanding buildings team in Dublin

Job type: Permanent

Location: Sandyford, Dublin 18 or Santry, Dublin 17

Salary: Competitive

The role

You will be part of a team recognised for delivering high quality, cost-effective and sustainable building projects across a range of sectors, including residential, healthcare, education and commercial.

Your key duties will include:

structural design
liaison with clients, design teams and contractors
site monitoring
project management
structural surveys and reports
site development design

Our buildings team works with architects, developers, local authorities and property owners to develop robust, long-lasting building designs.

Our portfolio features:

private housing developments
social housing developments
hospital facilities
retail developments
office buildings
primary, secondary and third-level school buildings

Convent Lands, Portlaoise, Co. Laois
Letterkenny Community Healthcare Facility
Meakstown Sports Hall and Community Centre
Ballyshannon Community Hospital
Wayfinding Centre, Glasnevin, Dublin 9
An Garrán, Tramore, Co. Waterford

Supporting Sustainable Communities Award at the Excellence in Local Government Awards 2025 for Meakstown Sports Hall and Community Centre
Healthcare Project of the Year at the Irish Construction Excellence Awards 2024 for Ballyshannon Community Hospital
Public Housing Award at the RIAI Irish Architecture Awards 2024 for Cornamona Court

Essential

Honours degree in structural or civil engineering (Level 8 qualification in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)
Two to five years' postgraduate experience with a structural design consultancy working on buildings-related projects
Strong safety ethic
Good organisational skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
Excellent attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Eagerness to learn and develop skills
Ability to work within a team or on your own under guidance
Fluency or a high level of proficiency in spoken and written English
Full and clean driving licence

Desirable

Experience of MasterSeries or similar structural design and analysis software
Knowledge of AutoCAD
Knowledge or experience of BIM/REVIT
Knowledge and experience of design in accordance with Eurocodes for concrete, steel, masonry, timber and foundations
