Job role:
Medica Ireland is seeking an experienced CORU-registered Sonographer who is interested in developing specialist skills in obstetric and early pregnancy ultrasound.
This role forms part of our Sonographer development and trainee framework and is designed for a clinically strong Sonographer with a solid foundation in general ultrasound. It would suit someone who is ambitious, motivated to learn and ready to develop further within a structured, quality-focused ultrasound service.
The successful candidate will continue to deliver general ultrasound across Medica sites while receiving structured clinical supervision and support in obstetric and early pregnancy ultrasound. Formal academic training will be supported through a funded obstetric ultrasound qualification with UCD, alongside supervised clinical practice with experienced Obstetric Sonographers and Midwife Sonographers.
This development pathway is best suited to a Sonographer who is already performing at a high clinical standard and wants to broaden their scope of practice, develop specialist expertise and contribute to the continued growth of high-quality ultrasound services.
Experience in MSK, paediatrics or DDH would be an advantage, but is not essential. We are particularly interested in Sonographers with strong general ultrasound experience, excellent clinical judgement, a positive approach to feedback and the drive to keep improving.
About our Ultrasound Service
Medica Ireland has a well-established and growing ultrasound service across Dublin, Wicklow and wider Ireland, delivering general ultrasound, obstetrics, early pregnancy, women’s health, paediatrics, DDH and MSK services.
Our services are structured around safe, sustainable Sonographer workloads, with appropriate list planning, clinical support and a strong focus on patient experience. Our ultrasound team includes Sonographers from both radiography and midwifery backgrounds, with a strong mix of general and specialist expertise.
Our obstetric services include well-established private clinics with strong patient demand and a reputation for high-quality, patient-centred care. We also have long-standing experience supporting HSE ultrasound waiting list pathways, giving Sonographers exposure to varied caseloads across private, public and insurance-funded services.
We place a strong emphasis on clinical quality, governance, peer learning and CPD. We are proud of our strong team culture and retention, supported by flexible working, work-life balance and genuine investment in professional development.
Medica Ireland is also part of a wider diagnostic imaging organisation, with potential future opportunities across imaging services such as X-ray, DXA, MRI and CT for Sonographers with a radiography background, depending on skills, interests and service requirements.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a clinically strong Sonographer who is motivated to continue developing their career in ultrasound. This role would suit someone who has a strong foundation in general ultrasound and wants to broaden their scope of practice into obstetric and early pregnancy ultrasound, while continuing to contribute to a high-quality, clinically led service.

We are particularly interested in Sonographers who see their career developing beyond routine clinical practice. This may include future involvement in teaching, mentoring, preceptorship, research, audit, quality improvement, clinical governance, advanced practice or leadership.
This role requires a high level of clinical capability, professionalism and commitment. It is best suited to a Sonographer who is ready to make full use of the training, supervision and development opportunities available, and who wants to build a long-term career within a service that values clinical excellence, learning and progression.
