This is an opportunity to join us at an exciting stage of our journey. While the role will initially involve maintaining the smooth running of our accounts department alongside an experienced accounts team, it will naturally develop into a broader Financial Controller position as our operations expand.
The Opportunity
This is much more than a traditional accounting role.
Initially, you will oversee the day-to-day finance operations of the dealership while ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting and compliance. As the business grows, you will play an increasingly strategic role in budgeting, forecasting, profitability analysis, cash flow management, business planning and leading an expanded finance team.
This position would suit someone who enjoys both rolling up their sleeves to ensure the fundamentals are done well while also wanting to influence business decisions and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Reporting
- Preparation of monthly management accounts
- Month-end close and financial reporting
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Cash flow forecasting and management
- Budget preparation and variance analysis
- Profitability analysis across departments
- Financial performance reporting to directors
- Management of annual audit process
- VAT, VRT and statutory reporting
- Continuous review and improvement of financial controls
Dealership Finance Operations
Oversee the daily financial operations across the dealership including:
- Vehicle accounting and stock reconciliations
- Parts inventory valuation and reporting
- Workshop WIP reporting
- Warranty accounting and manufacturer reconciliations
- Banking, payment processing and bank reconciliations
- Creditors and debtors management
- Invoice finance and vehicle funding facilities
- Finance commission processing
- Vehicle registration financial administration
- Manufacturer account reconciliations
- Monthly balance sheet reconciliations
Team Leadership
- Lead and support the accounts department
- Develop processes that improve efficiency and accuracy
- Assist with recruitment and development of future finance staff
- Work closely with departmental managers to improve financial performance
- Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Compliance & Governance
- Annual audit preparation
- Regulatory reporting
- AML compliance
- Internal financial controls
- Manufacturer compliance requirements
- Banking and funding compliance
- Government and industry reporting
Business Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve systems and processes
- Develop financial reporting that supports better decision making
- Implement efficiencies through technology and automation
- Support the integration of additional vehicle franchises
- Assist with strategic business projects as the company expands
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership and wants to grow with the business.
Ideally you will have:
- Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CPA), or be qualified by experience
- Experience in a Financial Accountant, Management Accountant, Assistant Financial Controller or Financial Controller role
- Strong management accounting and financial reporting experience
- Excellent analytical and organisational skills
- High attention to detail
- Strong commercial awareness
- Excellent communication skills
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach
- Experience managing or mentoring finance staff is desirable
Motor industry experience would be an advantage but is not essential. We are more interested in finding someone with strong financial expertise, commercial awareness, and the ambition to grow into a senior leadership role.
