ABOUT THE ROLE
Paige Press (Ireland) Limited is seeking an experienced Editor to support the development, editing, and publication of commercial fiction titles. The successful candidate will work closely with authors throughout the creative and editorial process, assisting with story development, manuscript evaluation, developmental editing, continuity review, and publication preparation.
This position requires substantial hands-on publishing experience and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with authors to strengthen manuscripts while maintaining author voice and creative vision.
The Editor will play an important role in supporting multiple authors and publishing projects simultaneously while ensuring editorial quality and consistency across publications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review manuscripts and provide editorial feedback regarding plot development, pacing, characterization, dialogue, continuity, and reader engagement.
- Collaborate directly with authors throughout the drafting, revision, and publication process.
- Assist in the development and refinement of story concepts, character arcs, and series continuity.
- Conduct developmental manuscript reviews and recommend revisions to improve narrative structure and overall reader experience.
- Help authors maintain consistent voice, tone, and characterization across individual titles and series.
- Participate in editorial planning discussions regarding ongoing and future publishing projects.
- Review manuscripts for continuity, consistency, quality control, and publication readiness.
- Coordinate editorial workflows and project timelines across multiple simultaneous publications.
- Assist with proofreading, copyediting review, and final manuscript preparation.
- Work with authors and publishing staff to support successful publication outcomes.
- Maintain detailed editorial records and project documentation.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of five years' experience working within a publishing, editorial, manuscript development, or author-support environment.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing and evaluating fiction manuscripts.
- Experience collaborating directly with authors during manuscript development and revision.
- Strong understanding of story structure, characterization, pacing, continuity, and narrative development.
- Excellent written communication and editorial analysis skills.
- Ability to provide constructive developmental feedback while preserving author voice and creative intent.
- Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and project coordination abilities.
- High level of attention to detail.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
- Experience supporting the publication of commercial fiction.
- Experience working with bestselling or high-volume publishing programs.
- Experience participating in story development, character development, and series planning.
- Experience with editorial review processes across multiple manuscripts simultaneously.
- Experience working within an independent publishing environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
No specific post-secondary qualification is required.
Applicants should demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and professional competencies through substantial hands-on experience in editorial, publishing, manuscript development, or related publishing roles.
Equivalent practical experience gained through direct work within the publishing industry will be considered in lieu of formal academic qualifications.
