Company Information and Introduction:
A Strategic Government Initiative, led by the IDA, DMI is an institute which is intended to help Irish based manufacturers (MNC's and SME's) to access and accelerate their adoption of digital technologies. Offering a world class physical and digital factory, a vendor showcase, an industry collaboration space and training facilities the institute will bring together technology, expertise, training and business supports to help manufacturing companies to enhance, transform and position their operations for the future.
Role overview:
As a senior member of DMI's Data and Digital Technology group, the AI Architect will be instrumental in shaping, building and deploying next-generation AI solutions for manufacturing, from strategy and architecture through to working prototypes, pilots and production-ready implementations.
This is a hands-on role for a practical technology leader: someone who can engage at CTO and operations-leadership level, but is equally comfortable working with data, code, models, APIs, edge devices, manufacturing systems and shop-floor teams to bring solutions to life.
The successful candidate will help DMI and its client base move beyond AI experimentation into measurable industrial impact, including AI-enabled quality, predictive maintenance, production planning, energy optimization, digital assistants, operator support, computer vision, robotics, digital twins and agentic workflow automation.
This important role will contribute towards DMI's long-term success as Ireland's national destination for advanced manufacturing and Industry 5.0 supports, ensuring Ireland's manufacturing base and supporting ecosystem remains resilient, sustainable, human-centric and competitive into the future.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Define and implement DMI's industrial AI architecture roadmap, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, interoperable and suitable for real manufacturing environments.
Develop reusable AI accelerators, reference architectures and demonstrators for manufacturing use cases.
Lead the design and delivery of enterprise AI platforms with a strong emphasis on secure knowledge access, role-based access control (RBAC), identity-aware retrieval, file and document permission enforcement, AI governance, compliance, AI orchestration, multi-agent systems, cloud-native and hybrid architectures, and production-scale AI solutions.
Practical experience designing and deploying AI solutions using modern AI engineering tools and frameworks, such as LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Neo4j, Bedrock, GraphRAG, MCP, model evaluation frameworks, prompt/version management and guardrail tooling, or equivalent technologies.
Provide subject matter expertise on responsible AI, AI governance, AI safety, cyber security, enterprise identity and access management, RBAC, secure knowledge access, and manufacturing regulatory requirements.
Design and implement AI solutions that align with ISO 42001, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF), GDPR, the EU AI Act, and the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications.
Mentor DMI colleagues and client teams, sharing practical patterns, code, playbooks and training that build AI capability across Ireland's manufacturing ecosystem.
Key Skills and Competencies:
Experienced, senior, hands-on AI, data, software or digital technology professional with strong credibility at executive, technical and operational levels.
Strong practical knowledge of machine learning, generative AI, LLMs, RAG, AI agents, computer vision, time-series analytics, optimization, forecasting and digital twin concepts.
Experience designing data architectures and pipelines that connect operational technology, enterprise systems and analytics platforms in a secure and governed way.
Experience designing AI solutions that respect enterprise identity, RBAC, file permissions, data classification, least-privilege access, and secure integration with corporate knowledge repositories.
Strong understanding of AI governance, responsible AI, model risk, data quality, cyber security and human-in-the-loop design.
Excellent communicator and collaborator with a substantial track record in building robust and productive relationships across internal teams, clients, technology partners and senior stakeholders.
Resilient, enthusiastic, driven and resourceful self-starter whose interpersonal skills invite participation and engagement, with the ability to manage ambiguity and complexity.
Holding a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, artificial intelligence, data science, manufacturing systems, management information systems, or a related technical field; equivalent experience will also be considered.
