Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced, high-energy, and results-driven Store Manager to oversee the daily operations of our busy convenience store. You will take full ownership of the store's financial performance, stock management, staff leadership, and customer service standards, ensuring compliance with symbol group guidelines (Daybreak/Nearby) while maximizing local profitability.
Key Responsibilities1. Team Leadership & People Management
- Recruitment & Training: Recruit, onboard, and continuously train a high-performing team of sales assistants and deli staff.
- Scheduling: Manage weekly staff rosters to ensure optimal floor and deli coverage while strictly controlling labor costs relative to sales targets.
- Performance Management: Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular reviews, and address any disciplinary or performance issues fairly and professionally in line with Irish employment law.
- Motivation: Foster a positive, hard-working, and collaborative team culture.
2. Commercial & Financial Performance
- Sales Growth: Drive store turnover and margin performance, with a heavy focus on high-margin categories (Deli, Coffee/Food-to-Go, Impulse buys).
- Wastage Control: Monitor, record, and aggressively minimize stock wastage and shrinkage, particularly in fresh food and deli departments.
- KPI Management: Analyze weekly sales reports, labor percentages, and margin sheets to identify areas for operational improvement.
- Local Marketing: Execute symbol group promotions and implement local marketing initiatives to drive footfall.
3. Stock Control & Merchandising
- Ordering: Manage inventory levels effectively using the store’s EPOS system, ensuring excellent availability without over-stocking.
- Supplier Relations: Coordinate with core wholesale partners (e.g., Musgrave / S&W) and direct store delivery (DSD) suppliers.
- Merchandising: Maintain flawless store standards, ensuring full shelves, correct pricing labels (SELs), eye-catching promotional displays, and compliance with planograms.
4. Operations, Health & Safety
- Food Safety (HACCP): Ensure the deli and fresh food areas operate to the highest standards of hygiene, maintaining rigorous HACCP records, temperature logs, and cleanliness.
- Compliance: Guarantee strict adherence to legal requirements, including age-restricted sales (alcohol, tobacco, lottery) and health and safety regulations.
- Cash Handling: Oversee secure cash handling protocols, safe drops, till reconciliations, and fuel/lottery balancing.
- Security: Maintain store security systems and train staff on loss prevention strategies to combat shoplifting and internal shrinkage.
Candidate Profile & QualificationsExperience & Skills Required:
- Retail Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of experience as a Store Manager or Assistant Manager in a fast-paced convenience store, supermarket, or forecourt environment in Ireland.
- Food-to-Go Knowledge: Strong experience managing a fresh food deli counter and an excellent working knowledge of HACCP guidelines is highly desirable.
- Financial Literacy: Proven capability in understanding retail KPIs, managing GP margins, and controlling labor costs.
- Tech Savvy: Proficiency with modern retail EPOS systems, stock-taking software, and Excel/ristering tools.
- Leadership: Exceptional communication skills with a proven track record of leading and developing a retail team.
- Flexibility: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and early/late shifts as required by the business.
