Duration:
Temporary externally funded non Grant-in-Aid contract post, the indicative duration of which is 11 months, subject to contract. A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such a panel will remain active for a maximum period of 12 months.
Basic Function:
Applications are invited for the post of Social Science Research Officer. The Research Officer will manage a work programme on the European research project, ‘TWIN-IN’ (https://project-twinin.eu/). TWIN-IN aims to promote responsible TWIN transitions towards digitalization and sustainability in European agrifood systems through innovation and learning alliances. Teagasc is leading the implementation of responsible research and innovation principles within the project.
Background:
The Research Officer will be a member of the Rural Economy and Development Programme (REDP) in Teagasc, working within the Agri-food Business and Spatial Analysis (AFBSA) Department. The mission of REDP is to produce high quality social science research and policy advice to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of the Irish Agri-Food sector and to enhance the quality of life in rural Ireland. The AFBSA Department is a recognised centre of expertise for social- and behavioural-science based research and spatial analyses on socio-economic and environmental issues relating to innovation in agriculture, food and the bioeconomy.
- An honours Level 8 degree, (as recognised on the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent), in life sciences; management; or a related discipline.
- Candidates must have experience in social & behavioral sciences
- A postgraduate degree and/or research experience in social or behavioral sciences would be a distinct advantage
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Highly motivated, self-driven, and have proven ability to act on their own initiative
- Excellent organization skills, report writing and data analysis
- Proven Project Management Skills
- Proven record of scientific communications.
- Aptitude for multidisciplinary approaches.
- An understanding of behavioral and social science research
- Knowledge of qualitative research methods
- Proven record of implementing and managing research projects
- Ability to work as part of a team, including consulting, collaborating and building relationships with key stakeholders.
- Strives for high quality of work and demonstrates commitment to the programme.
- Ability to communicate effectively to enable knowledge and technology transfer.

Eligibility
This is an open public competition. Should a current serving Teagasc staff member be successful in their application through open public competition for this post, their current contract of employment with Teagasc will come to an end on taking up this post.
