The Royal Marine Hotel is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Nights Manager to help oversee the smooth and safe running of the hotel during night operations.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, professional, motivated and hardworking individual with a desire to provide excellent customer service. This is not an officebased position but requires leading from the lobby and maintaining a visible presence throughout the night.
Job Summary
The Assistant Nights Manager supports the Night Manager in overseeing all hotel operations during the night shift. This role ensures guest safety, security, comfort and service excellence, while supervising the night team, completing night audit duties, handling late arrivals and departures, resolving issues and coordinating with relevant departments to maintain a seamless overnight operation.
Role Requirements
Support in establishing and implementing standards to ensure all services delivered overnight are of consistent 4* quality, ensuring all night team members are trained to deliver same.
Assist in setting high performance standards for the night team, taking responsibility for completing night tasks efficiently.
Identify and analyse operational challenges during the night and facilitate solutions to prevent recurrence.
Conduct regular night walkarounds, ensuring guest safety, building security and housekeeping/maintenance issues are addressed proactively.
Build productive customer relationships by addressing late-night guest needs, queries and complaints professionally.
Improve service levels by coaching and providing feedback to night staff.
Provide guidance and direction to team members, including monitoring performance and ensuring all night shift procedures are followed.
Ensure staffing levels meet guest service, operational needs and financial objectives.
Maintain compliance with Health & Safety requirements, security protocols and emergency procedures.
Maintain a strong visible presence throughout the night.
Manage and resolve overnight guest complaints professionally using the hotel's standards and procedures.
Assist in recruiting, training and developing night team members.
Complete Night Audit duties, including balancing daily transactions and preparing required reports.
Communicate all nightly activities, VIP arrivals, special requests and incidents during handover to early morning staff.
Hours of work
Full-time position that requires working nights, including weekends and holidays.
The regular hours are 23.00 to 07.30, 5 nights out of 7.
Shifts may include extended hours depending on operational needs.
The ideal candidate must have
Previous supervisory experience in a similar role within a 4* property or within hotel front office/night operations.
Excellent attention to detail with the ability to motivate both self and team.
Strong professional communication skills, both oral and written.
Experience in a high-volume hotel environment.
Competency in hotel property management systems such as Hotsoft, Opera, or similar PMS.
Ability to work under pressure, independently and with a passion for hospitality and night work.
Strong organisational and multitasking skills, with the ability to handle guest issues calmly and effectively.
