The following is a non-exhaustive summary of the duties of the post;
- ensure the efficient and effective functioning of any staff reporting to them
- have a good technical aptitude and the ability to use a range of hand, mechanical and electrical tools/equipment
- direct and control the implementation of planned programmes of work
- be able to operate and supervise the operation of machinery in their area
- ensure the implementation of the Council’s Health and Safety Procedures by staff at all times
- assist in the preparation and updating of records and reports
- ensure that any relevant training and instruction is received by all staff under his/her supervision
- be flexible in terms of working hours as this position may require work outside of normal hours
- arrange the supply of materials necessary for maintenance/repair work
- be available at all times to carry out inspections, prepare a specification of repairs and arrange the execution of work
- liaise and co-operate with any outside agency/contractor engaged by Galway County Council
- keep the Area Engineer/Senior Executive Engineer/Senior Engineer informed on all matters
Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms;
- Have a minimum of two years’ experience of civil works.
- Have a minimum of two years’ experience in the supervision and management of staff.
- Have a standard of education that would enable him/her to efficiently perform their duties and must be capable of making satisfactory reports (including written reports) on matters pertaining to the duties of the post.
- Have satisfactory knowledge of the requirements of health & safety legislation and the ability to properly complete safe systems of work plans
- Be capable of carrying out the organisational duties attached to the role including keeping of records and a level of IT skills fitting for the role.
- Hold a valid current Safe Pass card prior to any prospective appointment to the post.
