The Assistant Manager supports the Manager in the day-to-day operation of the preschool and after-school service, ensuring the highest standards of care, education, safeguarding, compliance, and customer service. The Assistant Manager helps lead the team, supports staff development, and assumes responsibility for the service in the Manager's absence. This role is included in the staff-to-child ratio.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Support the Manager in the daily running of the service.
Act as Manager in their absence.
Lead and motivate staff to deliver high-quality childcare.
Assist with staff supervision, mentoring and induction.
Promote a positive, professional and supportive team culture.
Childcare & Education
Ensure all children receive high-quality care and learning experiences.
Support implementation of the curriculum in line with Aistear and Síolta.
Ensure children's wellbeing, inclusion and individual needs are supported.
Monitor observations, planning and assessments.
Safeguarding & Compliance
Ensure safeguarding policies are followed at all times.
Support compliance with Tusla Early Years Inspectorate regulations and service policies.
Maintain accurate records and documentation.
Report any concerns promptly to the Manager.
Health & Safety
Ensure health, safety and hygiene standards are maintained.
Carry out daily safety checks where required.
Report hazards, incidents and accidents.
Promote a safe environment for children, families and staff.
Parent Partnerships
Develop positive relationships with parents and guardians.
Communicate professionally regarding children's progress and wellbeing.
Assist with settling children into the service.
Address routine parent queries and escalate concerns where appropriate.
Administration
Assist with attendance records and registers.
Support room ratios and staffing arrangements.
Help maintain children's files and service documentation.
Assist with ordering resources and stock management.
Team Responsibilities

Support new staff and students on placement.

Attend meetings and mandatory training.
Person Specification
Essential
Relevant Level 6 qualification (minimum) in Early Childhood Care and Education or equivalent.
Experience working in an early years and/or school-age childcare setting.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.
Good knowledge of childcare legislation and best practice.
Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
Desirable
Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
Knowledge of the National Childcare Scheme.
Experience with childcare management software.
Current First Aid, Child Protection and Manual Handling training.
