Job Title: Clinical Nurse Manager
Responsible to: Director of Nursing
Role Summary:
Work as a senior member of the nursing team, supporting the Director of Nursing in the day-to-day operations of the nursing home.
Develop and maintain good relationships with all members of the team and to work closely with nursing colleagues and Director of Nursing to develop innovative practice and deliver evidence-based care to meet the individual needs of each resident.
Ensure compliance to standards and legislation relating to the nursing home sector.
Take responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the nursing home in the absence of the Person in Charge.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical:
- Ensure high standards of care are delivered and maintained, working clinically alongside staff, leading by example. This will include working across all shifts and weekends.
- Serve as a clinical resource in assisting nursing and care staff to assess, plan, implement and evaluate resident’s care.
- Demonstrate and promote a person-centred and enabling style of clinical practice, always acting as an advocate for the resident.
- Ensure high standards of infection control are practiced and maintained, following good practice guidelines and the policy and procedures.
- Ensure good housekeeping and cleanliness/tidiness of environment.
- Ensure clinical skills/knowledge is up to date, including phlebotomy and cannulation.
- Act as a liaison with relevant others in the co-ordination of resident’s care. Maintain good communication with GP’s and other disciplines and ensure records are updated by them as appropriate.
- Supervise and evaluate the quality of care being delivered by all staff. Ensure care plans are reviewed and updated appropriately and on a regular basis.
- Be responsible for appropriate allocation of staff to residents, considering the level of nurse/carers knowledge and expertise, health and safety and continuity of care.
Managerial:
- Develop and maintain effective communication and interpersonal relationships with all members of the team to ensure a good team spirit and collaborative working practices.
- Assist in the induction and mentoring of new staff.
- Ensure all staff are following the nursing home’s policies and procedures.
- Support the Director of Nursing by meeting agreed responsibilities and to take charge in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
- Supervise and assess Care Assistants undergoing clinical training.
- Ensure incident reporting and risk management in the nursing home is instituted, documented, and actioned, following policy and procedures. Assist in the investigation of incidents, accidents, and complaints.
- Effectively manage staff performance issues, document and communicate to the Director of Nursing.
- Assist in implementing HIQA standards and ensuring their compliance.
- Assess and allocate workload to always maintain patient and staff safety and considering continuity of care for each resident.
- Assist the Director of Nursing in staff rostering to ensure adequate and safe levels of care are always provided.
- Carry out audits as allocated by the Director of Nursing and lead on any actions required for improvement.
- Manage own workload and time appropriately to ensure that resident’s needs are met, and staff take allocated breaks.
- Be responsible for the care, control, storage, and safe administration of drugs according to policy and procedures and the statutory guidelines and NMBI for the Administration of Medicines.
- Monitor the economic use of all supplies, always considering the budgetary implications of implementing care and treatments. Monitor weekly stock ordering. Ensure equipment is maintained and serviced and safe to use.
- The post holder is responsible for ensuring all duties and responsibilities of this post are carried out in compliance with Health and Safety legislation, Statutory Regulations and policies and procedures.
- The post holder will be expected to assist the Director of Nursing with out of hours cover as necessary.
- Ensure that Company policies and protocols are implemented.

Attend all mandatory study days and others education days relevant to practice.
Undertake any specific training required to perform/enhance your role.
