Job Summary
The Canteen Assistant is primarily responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, organisation, hygiene, and presentation of the staff canteen and associated back-of-house staff facilities. The role ensures that team members have access to a clean, safe, and welcoming environment while supporting the wider Housekeeping department with public area cleaning and other general duties as required.
Key Responsibilities

Clean, sanitise, and maintain the staff canteen, including dining tables, chairs, countertops, sinks, microwaves, refrigerators, vending areas, and other communal kitchen equipment.

Ensure food preparation and dining areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness throughout the day.

Sweep, vacuum, and mop canteen floors, keeping all areas clean, dry, and free from hazards.

Empty and sanitise waste and recycling bins, replacing liners as required.

Replenish canteen supplies including hand soap, paper towels, cleaning products, and other hygiene essentials.

Monitor the cleanliness and organisation of staff break areas and ensure compliance with health, safety, and food hygiene standards.

Report maintenance issues, equipment faults, or health and safety concerns promptly.

Follow all hotel cleaning, hygiene, chemical handling, and food safety procedures.

Use appropriate safety signage, including "Wet Floor" signs, when carrying out cleaning duties.

Monitor stock levels of cleaning materials and advise the supervisor when replenishment is required.

Assist with the cleaning and presentation of hotel public areas, including lobbies, corridors, lifts, stairwells, public restrooms, reception areas, meeting rooms, and other communal spaces as required.

Empty public area bins, replenish restroom consumables, and maintain outdoor entrance areas when allocated.

Assist with the setup and breakdown of meeting rooms or event spaces as required.

Provide courteous assistance to guests and team members when approached, directing queries to the appropriate department where necessary.

Work collaboratively with the Housekeeping team and support other departments as required.

Carry out any other reasonable duties consistent with the role and business needs as directed by management.

Required Experience & Skills

Previous experience in cleaning, housekeeping, catering, or a similar support role is desirable.

Knowledge of hygiene and food safety practices is an advantage.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.

Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Good communication and customer service skills.

Ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively as part of a team.

Eligibility to work in Ireland.
